Gail Cardow

My artistic career really began in my school years were I was sketching whenever I could, progressing to play around with oils in 1987. After getting married and having 4 children I had little time to spend on Art, but it was always on the back burner.
After working exclusively with oils I began experimenting with pastels in 1993 and was quickly drawn to its immediacy and spontaneity. My goal was to do the brush/pencil mileage to improve my art, so I can help others with my knowledge.

The opening of my business, Island Art Shop & Studio in 2009 led me to try my hand at Watercolour, Pen & Wash, Acrylic, Ink & Acrylic, Encaustic, Mixed Media, Resin & Acrylic Pours. I booked in for a week with a Golden Rep to learn Digital Printing, making acrylic skins to print an image on to use on mixed media work. I basically put myself out there to try anything that I could to experiment with to share my knowledge with other Artists.

I have developed a strong commitment to further myself in artistic circles, and now take time out from my busy schedule for personal development – my philosophy is “always learning”. After teaching at Cairns Art Escape, Bellingen Camp Creative, and classes in the Riverina area of NSW, plus ongoing classes in my Studio, I now plan on running more regular workshop from my studio in Urunga to pass on my methods and techniques.
