Linda Cocks

Like many people, Linda Cocks moved to the Coffs Coast from Sydney after Covid. She met Penny Adams who invited her to a “welcome to the area dinner” and that’s how she was introduced to the Urunga Art Space. Her sister Liz Challis and husband Leigh Morgan are local artists.

This is Linda’s honest self appraisal.

“I don’t really consider myself an artist, I just dabble. I enjoy doing classes and short courses in various forms of visual art from botanical painting to life drawing to oil painting. I work well in a class but once I am at home I lose all discipline and never finish anything. I work much better with lots of people around, I think it’s an ADHD thing!

I studied art at National Art School and that was quite amazing. It changes your whole perspective. There is a certain disregard for conventional art for the sake of pushing ideas further and expressing them in new and very abstract ways.”

So, here she is, taking on a more social role at Urunga Art Space. Linda is Secretary and Assistant Gallery Manager, and in training to be Linda Coomber’s trusty sidekick. The initials are pure coincidence. Or are they?
