Iris Ztarr was born in Helsinki, Finland and emigrated to Australia with her parents when she was 2 and a half years old. Iris discovered in her late 40’s, while caring for her mother, that she had an innate talent for colour, creating mosaics of animals, flowers and plants from handmade art glass. It was not until her mid 60’s that Iris started painting seriously in oils and acrylics, after studying with the Milan Art Institute. Iris thrives when creating paintings that are richly vibrant and full of bold colour. Her paintings include symbolic or mystical elements along with images of the feminine, animals and exotic birds.Iris’s studio is in Nambucca Heads looking towards the distant mountains of Bowraville and beyond. Her studio is open year round, busy and prolific. Iris finds inspiration for her paintings from the birds and flowering plants in her immediate neighbourhood, as well as in exotic bird life and wild, endangered animal species.Iris works in mixed media: collage, spray paints, oil pastels, acrylics and oils. Iris doesn’t like to plan her entire painting, leaving room for what wants to emerge during the process. Iris wants to inspire others in their creative life, no matter what their age. “When I’m in the flow of creativity I feel a sense of timelessness, and a connection to a greater source of creation itself. There is endless possibility and potential every day we are alive here on this beautiful earth. “ |
