Paul Miller

I work across a number of mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking and of course drawing. My work has many influences but mainly environmental, which come about from the places I have travelled to and the people that I have met and worked with along the way.

My drawings, paintings and prints are predominantly abstracted landscapes sometimes with figurative, architectural or mechanical elements. I like to use many mediums throughout my 2D works and especially enjoy bringing in more natural mediums such as hand made inks, paints and oxides. I also use text, homemade papers and cardboard as a form of collage as they often break the tension of a blank page or canvas and can lend an unexpected qualities that can take intended works or concepts in unanticipated directions.

My sculptures are mostly abstracted, figurative and have connections to animist cultural belief systems and anthropomorphism. I consider these works to be an extension of drawing as I do with all my work, and I use wire and mechanical components to achieve that quality. My sculptures are entirely made of recycled materials and I rely on the generosity of local small busineses who allow me to scrounge through their metal skips and friends who supply me with all the odd bits and pieces that come into play. Its a fun and fulfilling process of finding, experimenting and playing with these various components to making the fully realised work.

Drawing is basically my fundamental process and the key to all my work. For me drawing is my Cornerstone.
