Susie Oldfield

I have been working in natural materials for over 35 years: at first, spinning and weaving, animal fibres and leather-working in traditional and up-cycled contexts.

More recently I have had the privilege of being taught traditional indigenous fibre methods – Australian Aboriginal and Maori techniques, as well as, incorporating into my own work my own observations and experimentations during my travels in South East Asia.

During my studies at TAFE (Diploma and Advanced Diploma) I used this fibre knowledge in conjunction with clay construction -winning prizes in Great Lakes and Taree Art Society Open and Member exhibitions, as well as, exhibiting at Gloucester Gallery, Gallery 76 and Back to Back Gallery Potters Studio and South West Rocks.

I have successfully delivered workshops in contemporary basketmaking in conjunction with local exhibitions. I am committed to weaving a variety of fibres (Bangalow palm Lomandra, dracaena draco), using inks to colour and random weave patterns in conjunction with ceramic pieces.

Taking these medium and combining wth mixed media terchniques I am excited to further investigate and to see where it may lead!
